SP Energy Networks Launches £1.61 Million Community Benefit Fund for South Lanarkshire
Residents of South Lanarkshire can now apply for a portion of £1.61 million in funding from SP Energy Networks, aimed at supporting local community projects. This fund is linked to the development of transmission infrastructure, including a new substation in Coalburn North and overhead lines in Clyde South. The funding is part of a larger £6.82 million initiative for central and southern Scotland, targeting social, economic, and environmental benefits as part of the transition to clean power by 2030.

SP Energy Networks has opened a £1.61 million community benefit fund for South Lanarkshire residents, aimed at supporting local projects related to new transmission infrastructure. Key projects include a substation in Coalburn North and overhead lines in Clyde South, with specific funds allocated for Coalburn, Lesmahagow, Crawford, Elvanfoot, and Tweedsmuir.
The fund is part of a broader £6.82 million initiative across central and southern Scotland to enhance local communities as electricity demand is expected to double by 2050. Eligible groups such as community organizations and charities are encouraged to apply for grants to foster skills development, environmental enhancements, and community improvements.
