SPINS Launches €50M Pilot Line for Semiconductor Spin Qubits in Europe
The SPINS initiative, backed by a €50 million investment from the EU and regional authorities, aims to advance semiconductor spin qubit technology. This project addresses the manufacturing gap in quantum processors, essential for scalable quantum computing.

The SPINS pilot line has been initiated with €50 million funding from the European Union's Chips Joint Undertaking and regional authorities. Coordinated by imec, the consortium includes 25 partners from research, industry, and academia, focusing on semiconductor spin qubits to enhance European leadership in quantum technologies.
The project seeks to optimize processes and designs for high-performance qubits and develop standardized quantum Process Design Kits to reduce barriers for startups. As the demand for quantum computing applications grows, addressing the manufacturing challenges of qubits is crucial for the industry's future, highlighting the need for a robust cleanroom infrastructure and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
