SSE Renewables is moving forward with the Derrymeen Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, located near the Tamnamore substation in County Tyrone. The facility will have a capacity of 100MW and 200MWh of storage, supporting renewable energy integration and improving supply security.
Construction is slated to continue until late 2027, with Kirby Group Engineering and Sungrow as main contractors. A community information event will take place on April 9 for local stakeholders. Concurrently, Fugro and Sweco are conducting geotechnical investigations for the Delta Rhine Corridor West, aimed at creating pipelines to transport hydrogen and CO2 in the Netherlands, with studies evaluating subsurface conditions and potential ecological impacts.
