SSEN Transmission has gained approval for its Melgarve Cluster connection project, permitting the construction of a new 132kV overhead line and underground cabling to connect the Cloiche Wind Farm to the Melgarve substation. The project involves seven kilometers of pylons and is scheduled to start this summer.
The infrastructure aims to facilitate the transfer of renewable energy to the wider grid, aligning with clean energy goals for Scotland and the UK. The design has been developed in response to stakeholder feedback and environmental assessments, minimizing impacts on local habitats.
Previous proposals for the project were revised following the rejection of the Glenshero Wind Farm. Future assessments for the Melgarve substation will consider additional network connections.
