The city of St. Augustine is implementing several initiatives to improve stormwater management and mitigate flooding, with projects scheduled for completion by June 30 and October 31. The Court Theophelia neighborhood will see upgrades to roadway and utility systems, including the addition of green stormwater infrastructure designed to enhance drainage and water quality.
Simultaneously, the Inlet Drive Shoreline Resiliency project aims to stabilize coastal areas with new retaining walls and tide check valves to prevent backflow. Funding for these projects comes from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and FEMA, highlighting a commitment to long-term sustainability and infrastructure resilience. Successful execution of these projects could significantly reduce flooding risks and improve overall community preparedness for extreme weather events.
