Østensjø Rederi Orders Second Methanol-Ready Tug from Gondan Shipbuilders
Østensjø Rederi has contracted Gondan Shipbuilders for a second methanol-ready offshore tug, enhancing its operational capabilities. This vessel supports commitments to hybrid propulsion and emissions reduction in offshore operations.

Østensjø Rederi has finalized a contract with Gondan Shipbuilders for a second methanol-ready offshore tugboat, following a previous order. The 50-meter vessel will feature a beam of 17 meters, hybrid propulsion, and dynamic positioning (DP2-class), accommodating 14 personnel and achieving around 150 tonnes of bollard pull.
The first tug is set for delivery in Q1 2028, designed to handle methanol fuel. Key specifications for both tugs include Caterpillar engines and advanced emission reduction systems, indicating a strategic shift towards sustainable operations. The introduction of dual-end, ducted propulsors will enable reduced emissions during low-load scenarios, reflecting industry trends towards greener maritime solutions.
