Sumitomo SHI FW and VTT Sign Long-Term Agreement for Sustainable Fuels Technology
Sumitomo SHI FW (SFW) and VTT have signed a long-term agreement to utilize VTT's sustainable fuels technology in SFW's gasification plants globally. This technology enables the production of clean syngas from non-recyclable biowastes, essential for creating sustainable fuels and chemicals.
The partnership combines SFW's gasification and VTT's reformer technologies to convert residual biowaste into drop-in liquid fuels, including green methanol and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), suitable for existing engines and infrastructure. The agreement continues a collaboration that began over 15 years ago. SFW and VTT will also engage in a joint program to improve gasification performance and syngas yields, supporting low-carbon fuel production to reduce emissions.
