The UK government has allocated £6 million to advance the 'Project Starling' sustainable aviation fuel facility near the Port of Workington into the pre-planning stage. The initiative, in collaboration with Cumberland Council, aims to address challenges such as securing a faster electricity grid connection, essential for project progression.
The facility is projected to create 100-150 skilled jobs and stimulate significant investment in the West Cumbria region. Continued development in this area is expected to enhance the clean energy investment landscape alongside other initiatives like Pioneer Park.
