Svitzer Launches First Methanol-Hybrid Tug for Port of Gothenburg
Svitzer has unveiled its first methanol-hybrid tug, the largest Transverse tug to date, measuring 35 meters with a draught of 6 meters and a bollard pull of 85 tonnes. Set for deployment at the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden, this innovative tug aims to achieve near-zero emissions while assisting in the towing, maneuvering, and docking of vessels, including Maersk Line's methanol-fueled container carriers, ahead of the International Tug & Salvage Convention in May 2026.

Svitzer has launched its first methanol-hybrid tug, the largest and most powerful Transverse tug built to date. The 35-meter tug features a draught of 6 meters and a bollard pull of 85 tonnes. It will be deployed to the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden, ahead of the International Tug & Salvage Convention in May 2026, aiming to deliver near-zero emissions while towing, maneuvering, and docking ships, including Maersk Line's methanol-fueled container carriers.
