Sweden Allocates 8.7 Billion Crowns for Air Defense Systems Acquisition
Sweden plans to procure air defense and anti-drone systems valued at 8.7 billion Swedish crowns ($916 million), with deliveries slated for 2027 and 2028. This investment is part of a broader military modernization effort in response to increased regional threats, particularly following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Sweden's government has finalized contracts worth 8.7 billion kronor ($916 million) for various air defense systems, including the Gute II anti-drone system and other related assets. Deliveries are expected in 2027 and 2028, aligning with Sweden’s strategy to enhance its military capabilities amidst a changing security landscape, with military expenditure projected to rise to 3.5% of GDP by 2030.
Significant components of the package include approximately 70 vehicles, Tridon gun systems, and electronic warfare equipment. This procurement is linked to a previous 15 billion kronor investment in broad-area air defense and aims to provide rapid response capabilities against UAV threats. The systems will leverage operational insights from recent deployments in Ukraine, illustrating a commitment to modernizing defense infrastructure.
