Sweden Invests 8.7 Billion SEK in Air Defense Systems Amid Security Concerns
Sweden is committing 8.7 billion SEK ($916 million) to upgrade its air defense and anti-drone capabilities in response to security threats from Russia. This investment will enhance the protection of critical infrastructure and is part of a broader trend of increased military expenditure across Europe.

Sweden's military investment of 8.7 billion Swedish crowns will focus on air defense and anti-drone systems from Saab and BAE Systems. This procurement aims to strengthen national security, particularly following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with a defense budget projected to reach 2.8% of GDP by 2026 and 3.5% by 2030.
Key components include the Gute II anti-drone system, designed to protect military units and critical infrastructure, with deliveries planned for 2027 and 2028. The package also encompasses infantry mobility vehicles from Sisu and ammunition, underscoring the urgency of Sweden's defense enhancements in a shifting geopolitical landscape.
