The initiative began in June 2025 and includes a successful pilot scheme for multi-occupancy buildings. The council has recorded over £1 million in waste disposal savings and aims to promote greener practices among residents. All food waste is processed at Codford Biogas for energy and fertilizer production.

Swindon Borough Council will finalize its food waste collection service for 11,000 flats next week, completing a rollout that began in June 2025. This initiative follows the earlier launch of food waste collections for most residential properties in 2024.
A pilot covering 500 flats informed the final delivery model, which has led to over £1 million in waste disposal savings. Currently, the estimated cost avoidance stands at £1.45 million, with waste diverted from incineration.
All collected food waste is processed at Codford Biogas, producing renewable energy and fertilizer. The service accepts all cooked and uncooked food waste.
