Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Inaugurates 660 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Udangudi
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated Unit 1 of the 2x660 MW supercritical thermal power plant in Udangudi, built by Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Ltd at a cost of ₹13,077 crore. The plant is 6% more efficient than conventional plants and integrates with the grid through a 400 kV gas-insulated substation, enhancing state power generation capacity and reducing reliance on external power sources.

MK Stalin inaugurated Unit 1 of the 2x660 MW supercritical thermal power plant in Udangudi, Thoothukudi district, costing ₹13,077 crore. Established by Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Ltd, the plant is 6% more efficient than conventional thermal plants, reducing fuel costs and startup time.
The power generated will connect to the grid via a 400 kV gas-insulated substation, increasing the state's self-generation capacity. The project supports the state's growing electricity demand and decreases reliance on outside power purchases, beneficial for the Electricity Board's finances and socio-economic development.
