Tasmanian Dairy Research Facility Enhances Methane Mitigation Trials
New infrastructure at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture enables large-scale methane reduction trials while maintaining productivity. This initiative aims to enhance the sustainability of Tasmania's dairy industry through innovative research and local feed processing.

The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) has upgraded its Dairy Research Facility in Elliott to support methane mitigation trials, funded by the Tasmanian Government, TIA, and Fonterra. The new facility allows for the feeding of four different supplements during milking, enhancing research capabilities for low-emissions feed additives.
Infrastructure improvements include a new feed silo and grain processing capabilities, reducing operational costs and reliance on external feed sources. The facility allows for complex research with six herds under varying treatments, supporting sustainable dairy production. This upgrade follows a significant 2022 redevelopment, enhancing irrigation and waste management systems.
