Tenova and GE Vernova to Supply Record-Breaking Electric Arc Furnace for Nippon Steel in Japan
Tenova has been selected by Nippon Steel Corporation to supply the world's largest electric arc furnace for the Yawata Area at Kyushu Works. The furnace, powered by GE Vernova's Direct Feed system, will have a heat size of 340 tons, facilitating the use of high percentages of virgin iron units for high-quality steel production. The project aligns with Nippon Steel's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, transitioning from blast furnaces to electric arc furnace steelmaking.

Tenova will supply a Consteel electric arc furnace (EAF) for Nippon Steel Corporation's Yawata Area at Kyushu Works, marking it as the world's most powerful EAF with a heat size of 340 tons. This installation will enable higher percentages of virgin iron units for quality steel production.
The project supports Nippon Steel's goal for carbon neutrality by 2050, moving from blast furnace to EAF steelmaking in accordance with Japan's Green Transformation Promotion Act. The partnership with GE Vernova aims to enhance sustainability in the steel industry.
