Thoothukudi Corporation Approves Methanol Production Project from Waste
Thoothukudi Corporation has approved a project to produce methanol from unsegregated waste at the Tharuvaikulam dumping yard. The resolution was passed during a council meeting on Friday, which included discussions on various civic issues, including the rise of stray dogs and the poor condition of local roads.
Mayor Jegan Periyasamy announced a ₹31 crore allocation for road construction and improvements, including the development of a heritage road. The methanol production project aims to reduce waste volume, generate green fuel, create employment opportunities, and control pollution, with five acres of land designated for its initial phase. Measures to control stray dogs and mosquito populations have also been emphasized.
