Thyssenkrupp Nucera to Enhance 3.2GW Electrolyser Capacity Amid Expanding Q2 Losses
Thyssenkrupp Nucera will enhance 3.2GW of alkaline electrolysers, leading to increased Q2 EBIT losses. The adjustments follow field data insights and are expected to bolster module reliability and safety.
Thyssenkrupp Nucera is set to upgrade approximately 3.2GW of alkaline electrolyser modules, which constitute over 90% of its current projects. The company reported Q2 EBIT losses of -€65 million, a significant increase from -€4 million in the same quarter of the previous year, mainly due to €50 million in one-time charges linked to its green hydrogen sector.
These charges stem from improvements being implemented on around 160 20MW Scalum alkaline electrolysers and the cancellation of a pilot project in the US by CF Industries. The upgrades aim to enhance the reliability and safety of the modules based on practical field experiences.
