thyssenkrupp Uhde to Conduct Biomass-to-Methanol Study for Nova Sustainable Fuels in Canada
METHANOL
Nova Sustainable Fuels (NSF) has contracted thyssenkrupp Uhde to conduct an integration study for a biomass-to-methanol project in Nova Scotia. The study will evaluate the production of over 450,000 metric tons of methanol annually from sustainably sourced biomass, using Uhde's PRENFLO gasification and methanol synthesis technologies.
Construction is slated to start in 2028, with operations expected to begin in 2031. The initiative supports NSF's strategy to produce low-carbon fuels and strengthen Canada's sustainable energy supply chains, with an environmental assessment approval achieved in December 2025.
