TransnetBW GmbH and Prisma Photonics have launched a two-year program to evaluate PrismaPowerline monitoring technology across 120 kilometers of power circuits in southwest Germany. The collaboration aims to enhance dynamic line rating capabilities to optimize transmission capacity amid growing renewable energy generation.

Financial losses from grid congestion in Germany reached over $3 billion in 2023, prompting the need for improved monitoring systems. This initiative also aligns with EU climate neutrality goals for 2050 and addresses cost pressures from congestion. Prisma's technology will enable real-time monitoring of wind conditions and line integrity, potentially expanding TransnetBW's existing capabilities.
