Trump Calls for Suspension of All Trade with Spain at NATO Summit
US President Donald Trump has directed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to halt all trade with Spain, labeling it a poor NATO partner. This move reflects ongoing tensions related to Spain's defense spending and its refusal to support US military operations in Iran.

President Donald Trump has ordered the cessation of all trade activities with Spain, citing its inadequate contributions to NATO as the primary reason. Spain's contribution to NATO defense spending is capped at 2.1% of GDP, significantly lower than the alliance's new goal of 5% by 2035.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s office responded, emphasizing the strong ties and dismissing Trump's remarks as 'business as usual.' Trump's criticism stems from Spain's refusal to allow US military operations related to Iran, thereby straining bilateral relations. The situation highlights a significant rift in cooperation within NATO and potential economic ramifications for Spain if trade is disrupted.
