UK Monitors Russian Submarine Operations Targeting Undersea Infrastructure
Recent Russian submarine maneuvers near UK undersea cables were detected, emphasizing national security threats. The UK government has deployed military resources to monitor these activities, which are part of a broader hybrid warfare strategy by Russia.

The UK Defence Secretary reported that three Russian submarines, including an Akula-class attack submarine and two GUGI spy submarines, were tracked in the North Atlantic near critical undersea cables. These operations, which occurred within the UK's exclusive economic zone, raised national security concerns due to the cables carrying over 90% of the UK's internet traffic and pipelines supplying essential energy.
The UK's Royal Navy deployed the HMS St Albans and other military assets for monitoring, while Norway assisted in surveillance. Despite the heightened threat, no damage to infrastructure has been confirmed.
Defense Secretary Healey reiterated Russia as a primary threat and called for increased defense investment to safeguard critical assets. The operation involved over 500 personnel and concluded without incident.
