University Hospitals Dorset Acquires Land Next to Royal Bournemouth Hospital for Expansion and Development
University Hospitals Dorset has acquired land next to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital from BCP Council for expansion and development purposes. Initially, the site will provide temporary parking, with future plans including geothermal energy implementation and key worker housing to attract staff. A masterplan will be developed next year to explore additional healthcare-related uses, supporting efforts to enhance healthcare services in the region.

University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) has purchased the remainder of Wessex Fields from BCP Council, adjacent to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. The land will initially serve as temporary parking for patients, visitors, and staff.
Starting in 2026, feasibility studies will assess the implementation of geothermal energy for heating the hospital estate. Plans for key worker housing are underway to attract and retain staff, reducing traffic congestion by allowing employees to live nearby.
A site masterplan, to be developed next year, will consider additional healthcare-related uses, including education and research facilities. This acquisition aligns with broader efforts to enhance healthcare services across Dorset, notably in improving access to emergency and planned care at Bournemouth and Poole hospitals.
