University of Hawaiʻi Students Enter Semiconductor Sector Development
The University of Hawaiʻi is integrating into a national semiconductor initiative backed by $52.7 billion in investments. This partnership aims to address the projected workforce shortage in the semiconductor industry, estimated at 127,000 to 157,000 workers by 2030.

The University of Hawaiʻi has joined a regional initiative to enhance semiconductor education and workforce development, responding to a national investment of $52.7 billion aimed at bolstering domestic semiconductor capabilities. Led by professors from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, this effort connects students with hands-on training, internships, and industry partnerships across nine western states and Hawaiʻi, addressing an anticipated shortage of skilled semiconductor workers.
The partnership will facilitate access to shared resources and curriculum, while improving career pathways for students. With demand for semiconductor expertise on the rise, this initiative is crucial for ensuring a well-prepared workforce in a rapidly growing sector.
