US House Introduces Bipartisan Bill for Tax Incentives in Plant-Based Biomanufacturing
A bipartisan bill aims to enhance US biomanufacturing of renewable materials through tax incentives for producers. The initiative seeks to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and bolster local economies by promoting plant-based crops and domestic manufacturing.

The Biobased Materials Investment and Production Act proposes a 30% investment tax credit and a production credit of 10 cents per pound for renewable materials, up to $10 million annually. Introduced by Congresswomen Nikki Budzinski and Michelle Fischbach, the legislation is designed to stimulate production using homegrown biomass, thus ending dependence on imported fossil fuels.
This effort aligns with previous government initiatives to prioritize biomanufacturing, including an executive order from President Biden and investments by the Department of Defense. The bill could create jobs in rural areas and enhance US competitiveness in the biomanufacturing sector, potentially transforming agricultural productivity and sustainability.
