U.S. Navy Awards $96 Million LAIRCM Contract to Northrop Grumman
The U.S. Navy has awarded a $96.1 million contract modification to Northrop Grumman for Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure (LAIRCM) systems. This initiative aims to enhance the survivability of military aircraft against infrared-guided missile threats, crucial for mission success in contested environments.

The U.S. Navy's Naval Air Systems Command has awarded Northrop Grumman a $96.1 million contract for the LAIRCM system to enhance aircraft survivability against missile threats. The system autonomously detects and counters infrared-guided missiles, minimizing operator intervention.
Key components include the AAR-54 missile warning system and the Guardian Laser Transmitter Assembly, which improve tracking and jamming capabilities. The contract covers various assemblies for Navy and Air Force aircraft and is expected to be completed by July 2028, with work conducted across multiple states, including Illinois and California. This advancement in directed infrared countermeasures is critical for maintaining operational effectiveness against evolving aerial threats.
