US Plans Tariffs on Chinese Polysilicon Boosts Solar Stocks
Enphase Energy, SolarEdge Technologies, First Solar, and Array Technologies saw stock increases of 6-8% following reports of potential US tariffs on polysilicon. The proposed measures, aimed at reducing reliance on Chinese imports, could be announced later this month and are intended to protect domestic manufacturers like Hemlock Semiconductor and Wacker Chemie.

The US administration is preparing to implement a price floor and tariffs on polysilicon, with a decision expected to be announced later this month. This policy aims to safeguard US producers from low-priced imports from China, which currently dominates about 80% of global solar manufacturing.
Companies such as Hemlock Semiconductor and Wacker Chemie could benefit from these measures, while solar stocks, including Enphase Energy, SolarEdge Technologies, First Solar, and Array Technologies, experienced notable gains. The actions reflect a shift in trade policy impacting the solar supply chain, which is crucial for both solar panels and semiconductor production. Additionally, the administration recently banned imports of select foreign-made advanced robots and power inverters to further reduce dependency on Chinese technology.
