U.S. Steel to Invest $1.9B in New Direct Reduced Iron Facility in Arkansas
U.S. Steel is investing $1.9 billion to construct a direct reduced iron facility in Osceola, Arkansas, which will create over 200 jobs. This project, the first of its kind in the U.S., aims to enhance operational efficiency and secure a competitive edge in steel production.

U.S. Steel will build a direct reduced iron (DRI) facility at Big River Steel Works in Osceola, Arkansas, with a total investment of $1.9 billion. The project will employ approximately 200 full-time staff and 35 contractors while generating an estimated 2,000 construction jobs at peak.
This facility will integrate the company's mining operations and electric arc furnace feedstock production, thereby eliminating the need to transport DRI to the site. The investment, accelerated through a partnership with Nippon Steel, reflects growing confidence in Arkansas's steel industry.
The facility will enhance U.S. Steel's operational efficiency and competitive position in the market.
