Uzbekistan Relocates Greenhouses from Tashkent to Surkhandarya
The Uzbek government has resolved to relocate greenhouse operations from Tashkent to Surkhandarya by 2026, ceasing natural gas supply to affected areas and implementing stricter environmental regulations. This initiative aims to adapt agriculture to climate change and enhance food security.

As of June 1, 2026, new greenhouse registrations using harmful fuels will be prohibited in Tashkent and its districts, with natural gas supply ceasing by August 1, 2026. The Cabinet of Ministers' resolution, adopted on April 9, 2026, facilitates the relocation of greenhouse farms to Surkhandarya, where financial support and modern infrastructure will be provided.
A free economic zone named 'Surkhon-Agro' will also be established to concentrate these relocated operations. Environmental measures include significant increases in water tariffs and pollution compensation payments, alongside strict tax rate adjustments. The Ministry of Agriculture will coordinate the relocation process, while a program for housing specialists will be developed by the end of 2026.
