Vail Receives $1.78 Million Tax Credit for Geothermal Energy Project at Public Library

GEOTHERMAL

Vail has been awarded a $1.78 million geothermal energy tax credit from the Colorado Energy Office for a project at the Vail Public Library. This project is designed to reduce emissions by over 10,000 metric tons annually as part of a long-term goal of 80% reductions by 2050.

It will connect the library to a geothermal bore field and the waste-heat loop of the Dobson Ice Arena. The estimated project cost is $6 million, with completion anticipated by fall 2027. The tax credit will cover qualified expenditures through December 31, 2027, and requires detailed reporting and auditing by the Colorado Energy Office.
