Valero Grand Suites by Swiss-Belhotel has switched to renewable energy through a partnership with First Gen Corp., becoming one of the first hotels in Makati's central business district to implement clean power under a government initiative. The agreement, signed in 2024, sources electricity from a geothermal power plant operated by Energy Development Corp., a subsidiary of First Gen.
This transition aims to reduce the hotel's carbon footprint and comply with global sustainability standards. The shift utilizes the Green Energy Option Program, enabling consumers with a peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts to select renewable energy suppliers. First Gen is the largest renewable energy producer in the Philippines, with a diverse portfolio totaling 1,700 megawatts in geothermal, hydro, solar, and wind resources.
