Vietnam and Brazil Strengthen Cooperation in Agriculture, Energy, and Biotechnology
A Vietnamese delegation led by Ambassador Bui Van Nghi visited Maranhão state, Brazil, from February 25-28, 2026, to enhance cooperation in agriculture, energy, and biotechnology. The visit included meetings with local officials and businesses, focusing on investment, trade, and strategic partnerships. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1989, Vietnam and Brazil elevated their ties to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024, with two-way trade reaching $7.76 billion in 2025. Maranhão state authorities pledged support for a dry port project with significant infrastructure investments.

Vietnam and Brazil are enhancing cooperation in agriculture, energy, and biotechnology through a recent visit by a Vietnamese delegation led by Ambassador Bui Van Nghi to Maranhão state from February 25-28, 2026. The focus was on cities including Davinópolis and Imperatriz, with discussions on investment, trade, and strategic partnerships.
The relationship, established in 1989 and elevated to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024, has seen two-way trade reach $7.76 billion in 2025. Plans include developing sustainable aviation fuel from sweet potatoes and expanding existing agricultural facilities. Maranhão state authorities committed $3.9 million for infrastructure to support a dry port project.
