Vietnam Launches First National Semiconductor Chip Prototyping Centre
Vietnam has inaugurated its National Semiconductor Chip Prototyping Support Centre, aimed at enhancing local chip manufacturing capabilities. This facility will reduce costs and development times for domestic semiconductor designs, addressing a critical bottleneck in the industry.

On June 26, Vietnam launched its National Semiconductor Chip Prototyping Support Centre, marking a significant step towards establishing a domestic semiconductor ecosystem. The centre, created by the Ministry of Science and Technology, aims to reduce prototyping costs and accelerate the commercialization of local chip designs by providing Multi-Project Wafer services.
Currently, the semiconductor industry in Vietnam faces challenges, with costs for chip designs ranging from US$30,000 to US$200,000 and lengthy production timelines of 12 to 24 months. The centre plans to subsidize prototyping costs from 2026 to 2027 and expand its services through 2030. This initiative is expected to enhance Vietnam’s research capacity and workforce skill levels, facilitating deeper integration into the global semiconductor value chain.
