VTT has launched the FutureGrid research infrastructure in Otaniemi, Espoo, aimed at developing and testing advanced power grid technologies. This facility provides a safe environment for both Finnish and international stakeholders to address the challenges arising from the green transition and the projected tripling of Finland's electricity consumption by 2040.

The FutureGrid combines physical microgrid infrastructure with a real-time simulator to create virtual test scenarios, enabling the safe validation of new solutions. The initiative is crucial for enhancing the resilience and security of Finland's electricity grid, driven by increased demands from renewable energy, electric mobility, and technological advancements.
