Warracknabeal Energy Park to Become Southern Hemisphere's Largest Wind Farm
The Warracknabeal Energy Park project, anticipated to meet 12.5% of Victoria's energy needs, is advancing through approvals despite community concerns. With a potential operational life of 30 years, the project is set to create 950 construction jobs and contribute to the state's renewable energy targets.

The Warracknabeal Energy Park is projected to become the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere, generating approximately 12.5% of Victoria's future energy requirements. The project is expected to create nearly 950 jobs during construction and sustain 35 ongoing positions once operational, with a lifespan of 30 years.
Key infrastructure includes high-voltage transmission lines and two battery storage facilities with a combined capacity of 1000 MWh. However, the project has faced significant community opposition, with concerns about worker accommodation, noise levels, environmental impact, and traffic increases.
Further approvals are needed from the Federal Government under national environmental regulations. The potential economic benefits for the Wimmera region and alignment with renewable energy targets could enhance energy security in Victoria.
