Weikersheim Launches Project to Save 500,000 Liters of Heating Oil
Weikersheim is developing two combined heat and power plants (BHKW) and a thermal energy storage system to save up to 500,000 liters of heating oil annually. This initiative aims to enhance energy independence and contribute to the city's climate neutrality goal by 2045.

Weikersheim is constructing two block heat and power plants (BHKW) and a thermal energy storage facility, projecting an annual savings of 500,000 liters of heating oil. The project will connect a biogas plant via a four-kilometer gas pipeline, allowing the local generation of heat and electricity.
The city aims to utilize the generated heat for school buildings, a sports hall, and a swimming pool, contributing to its climate neutrality target by 2045. The cost of the project is approximately €8.3 million, primarily funded by BioEnergie Tauberhöhe.
Completion is required by the end of the year to secure funding. If successful, this model may serve as a precedent for similar rural initiatives.
