Winnetka Village Hall to Consider Geothermal Heating and Cooling System
Winnetka's Village Council is evaluating a geothermal heating and cooling system projected to cost $1.57 million, aided by federal tax credits. This system aims to enhance sustainability and is expected to serve for over 75 years, offering a more efficient alternative to the existing HVAC setup.

Winnetka's Village Council has tentatively approved a geothermal heating and cooling system for Village Hall, projected at $1.57 million after federal tax credits. This system will ensure long-term sustainability and has a lifespan exceeding 75 years, with all equipment installed below ground.
The council plans to issue construction bids in October 2026, with work commencing in January 2027, potentially reducing costs due to winter conditions. Current HVAC systems face challenges such as outdated refrigerants and lack of technician familiarity.
Additional upgrades, including an ADA-compliant ramp and fire alarm system, are estimated at $390,000. The project must be formally approved in the 2027 fiscal budget.
