€80 Million Biomethane Facility Under Construction in Cork
A major waste-to-energy plant is being developed in Cork, with an investment of €80 million. Once operational in 2027, it will process 90,000 tonnes of waste annually, generating 80 GWh of biomethane and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Stream BioEnergy is constructing a €80 million biomethane facility in Little Island, Cork, expected to be operational by 2027. The plant will process 90,000 tonnes of domestic and commercial food and garden waste each year, producing 80 GWh of biomethane for the Irish national grid and contributing to a reduction of 40,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Funding comes from Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Pioneer Infrastructure Partners, with a focus on local contractors during construction. Over 100 jobs will be created in the construction phase, with more than 20 permanent roles post-commissioning. The facility will also produce biofertiliser, supporting local agriculture.
