ABS Initiates €400 Million Green Steel Plant Construction in Italy
ABS is investing €400 million to establish the Hybrid Digital Green Plant in Italy, significantly enhancing production capacity and sustainability. The project aims for a 30% reduction in CO emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

Construction of the Hybrid Digital Green Plant by ABS - Acciaierie Bertoli Safau SpA has begun, with a total investment of €400 million. A substantial portion, €355 million, is directed towards supplies from Danieli.
The facility will implement twelve advanced production technologies, including the Digimelter electric furnace, to improve sustainability metrics such as carbon intensity and energy use. The plant's production capacity will rise from 1.4 million to over 2.1 million tons per year.
Supported by a €2.9 million contribution from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region and positive evaluations under Italian MIMIT Development Agreements, the project targets a 30% reduction in CO emissions by 2030 and aims for carbon neutrality by 2050. This initiative may set a new benchmark for efficiency and safety in steel production.
