AMC Launches Pilot Project to Supply Cow Dung Sticks as Cooking Fuel Amid LPG Shortage
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated a pilot project supplying cow dung sticks as an alternative to LPG for cooking in community kitchens, temples, and hostels, amid increased LPG bookings due to supply issues linked to the Iran conflict. So far, 350 kg of dung sticks have been distributed, with plans for further supply depending on demand.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a pilot project to provide cow dung sticks as an alternative cooking fuel due to an LPG shortage caused by the Iran conflict and rationing of commercial gas. 350 kg of cow dung sticks have been supplied to temples, hostels, and community kitchens. Approximately 3,800 kg of dung is produced daily from 930 animals at local gaushalas, which is also used for fertilizer, biogas, and other products.
The pilot phase targets units that heavily rely on LPG, with 1,000 kg of dung sticks prepared for distribution. The project will continue based on demand and may expand if LPG shortages persist.
