Astra Agro Advances Emission Reduction via Palm Oil Waste-to-Energy Initiative
PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk has initiated a methane capture facility to convert palm oil mill effluent into renewable energy, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative supports Astra's 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, including a 30% reduction in emissions by 2030.

On June 23, 2026, PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk launched a methane capture facility at PT Kimia Tirta Utama in Siak, Riau, to convert palm oil mill effluent into renewable energy. This facility has produced 1.17 million Nm⊃3; of biogas by May 2026, reducing reliance on alternative fuels and saving 2,564 tons of palm shells.
The initiative is projected to decrease emissions by 28,649 tons of CO₂ equivalent by the end of 2026. Astra Agro aims to develop up to 10 similar facilities to enhance sustainable palm oil practices in Indonesia, aligning with its target of achieving Net Zero by 2050.
