Australia Introduces New Carbon Credit Methods to Enhance Income and Emission Reductions
The Albanese Government's new carbon credit methods aim to generate an estimated $7.7 billion in Northern Australia, promoting economic opportunities while reducing emissions. These initiatives leverage Indigenous knowledge, enhancing carbon credit generation through updated savanna fire management and livestock practices.

Australia's Albanese Government has introduced new carbon credit methods projected to generate $7.7 billion through enhanced carbon capture and emission reductions. These include two savanna fire management methods that utilize Indigenous practices to lower emissions and increase carbon storage, enabling project operators to earn more Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
Updates to livestock and waste management methods are also underway, focusing on low-emission practices and waste diversion. Indigenous-led projects currently abate approximately one million tonnes of emissions annually, with the new methods expected to increase this by an estimated 180 million tonnes over 25 years. The integration of these methods could significantly support economic development and environmental sustainability in rural Australia.
