Austria's Fuel Stations Expand EV Charging and Biofuels Amid Industry Transformation
Austria concluded 2024 with 2,724 publicly accessible fuel stations, according to the energy and fuel industry association (FVEK). While the total number of stations decreased slightly, the variety of services and alternative fuels increased significantly.
The network comprises 1,305 major-branded stations operated by companies including Enilive, bp, OMV, Shell, and JET, along with 1,419 other branded sites. Investment in customer experience is evident, with over 1,100 major-branded stations featuring shops and nearly 940 offering bistros.
Electric vehicle infrastructure is rapidly expanding, with charging stations increasing from 168 to 230 and fast-charging points rising from 482 to 795. Biofuel options also grew, with 118 stations now offering HVO100, a renewable diesel alternative. The sector is undergoing a major transformation towards sustainable energy while maintaining conventional fuels.
