Basingstoke and Deane Council Achieves 95% Reduction in Carbon Emissions by 2025
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has achieved a nearly 95% reduction in carbon emissions since 2019, targeting carbon neutrality by December 2025. Key initiatives include solar panel installations, energy-efficient upgrades, and a shift to electric and low-carbon vehicles.

Since declaring a climate emergency in 2019, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has reduced its carbon emissions from 3,700 tonnes to 195 tonnes. The council installed over 400 solar panels, upgraded office energy efficiency, and transitioned its fleet, including bin trucks and sweepers, to electric or low-carbon biofuel, reducing emissions by up to 98%.
Efforts also included carbon absorption initiatives in parks, equating to the removal of over 650 cars annually. The council used 1,331 carbon offset credits for forest planting in Scotland. Additional borough-wide initiatives are projected to save approximately 800 tonnes of carbon emissions yearly, reinforcing its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2025.
