Bengaluru Startup Converts Waste to Biogas Amid LPG Shortage
Sustainable Impacts processes 50 tonnes of waste daily to produce one tonne of biogas, addressing the LPG crisis in Bengaluru. The facility's operations are crucial as the state faces a shortage of commercial cooking fuel affecting thousands of restaurants.

Sustainable Impacts, a collaboration between Carbon Masters and Hasiru Dala Innovations, converts 50 tonnes of urban waste into one tonne of biogas each day. Due to disruptions in LPG imports since March 2026, Karnataka has imposed supply limits, causing a crisis for approximately 25,000 restaurants.
The Harohalli facility's biogas output ranges from 900 to 1,000 kg daily, with CBG priced significantly lower than commercial LPG. Plans to expand capacity to 200 tonnes are underway, and a new plant will process 900 tonnes daily.
Despite this, the solutions offered will only cover less than 40% of the city's wet waste. The need for diverse green energy solutions remains critical as the industry faces regulatory challenges.
