Bernhard Schulte Launches First LCO₂ Carrier 'Northern Purpose' in China
Bernhard Schulte's inaugural LCO₂ carrier was launched to support carbon capture efforts in Europe. The vessel is designed for transporting liquefied CO₂ as part of the Northern Lights project, marking a significant development in decarbonization initiatives.

The 'Northern Purpose', launched by Bernhard Schulte on May 19, is the company's first liquefied CO₂ carrier, designed for use in the Northern Lights carbon capture and storage initiative. Constructed by Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co., Ltd.
(DSOC) in China, it has a cargo capacity of 7,500 m³ and can operate under conditions of a maximum of 19 bar(g) pressure and -35°C temperature. This vessel will facilitate the transport of captured CO₂ from Northwest Europe to Norway for geological storage.
Equipped with an LNG dual-fuel propulsion system and advanced technologies, it aims to minimize its carbon emissions. As BSM enters the LCO₂ carrier management sector, this development highlights ongoing collaborations in the green energy transition.
