Bio Voltex Plans Biogas and Fertilizer Plant in Sussex Area
Bio Voltex aims to establish a biogas and fertilizer plant in Sussex, utilizing agricultural and fish waste. The project could generate 180,000 gigajoules of natural gas and 100,000 tonnes of fertilizer annually, addressing local waste management and energy needs.

Bio Voltex has submitted a proposal for a biogas and fertilizer facility in the Sussex area, projected to produce 180,000 gigajoules of natural gas and 100,000 tonnes of fertilizer annually. The project, costing approximately $40 million, is expected to begin construction this fall, pending environmental impact assessment approval, with operations projected to start by Q1 2028.
The plant will utilize chicken and dairy manure as well as fish waste, aiming to reduce reliance on imported gas and mitigate methane emissions. It is anticipated to employ 110 workers during construction and 20 thereafter.
N.B. Power is in preliminary discussions regarding gas purchases. Local farmers could receive free fertilizer, enhancing agricultural sustainability in the region. The proposal is generally well-received, although odor control remains a concern for some residents.
