Biogas Project Using Food Waste Launched at Cuddalore Medical College
A biogas production project utilizing food waste was launched at the Cuddalore Government Medical College Hospital campus in Chidambaram. The initiative, implemented at the students' hostel, aims to promote recycling and sustainable energy in waste management.
Leftover food waste from cooking is collected and processed in a biogas digester, converting it into biogas for cooking purposes. This project reduces reliance on conventional fuels and lowers fuel expenses while decreasing food waste accumulation and environmental pollution.
Developed with technical guidance from Dr. CG Saravanan and Dr. B Prem Kumar of Annamalai University, the biogas digester was designed and installed by GK Mod Fibreglass, Villupuram.
The Dean of the Medical College, Dr. C Thirupathi, indicated plans to expand the application of this technology to other institutions.
