Bulacan to Enhance Environmental Initiatives with New Waste-to-Energy and Biogas Facilities

In a significant move toward environmental sustainability, Environment Secretary Raphael Lotilla unveiled plans to enhance Bulacan's ecological initiatives, particularly through the construction of waste-to-energy and biogas facilities. This announcement came during the Handog ng Pangulo caravan, celebrating President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s 68th birthday at the Malolos Sports Complex.

Governor Daniel Fernando expressed that the waste-to-energy project aims to decisively tackle the persistent garbage problem plaguing the towns and cities of Bulacan. By converting waste into energy, this initiative not only addresses environmental concerns but also contributes to the local electricity supply. The project will be implemented through a public-private partnership, inviting private investors to partake in this transformative venture.

Lotilla assured that any regulatory requirements from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) or other government bodies would be provided at no cost to the provincial government, thus streamlining the process for local stakeholders. In addition, he highlighted the department's commitment to developing biogas facilities, which will enable the poultry and hog industries to convert animal waste into a viable energy source, reducing costs for producers.

To further bolster environmental efforts, the DENR is prioritizing extensive tree planting initiatives in Bulacan’s mountainous regions. As a demonstration of commitment, the agency has donated 1,000 assorted tree seedlings and 500 fruit-bearing trees to support these activities.

In tandem with these environmental programs, a recent job fair, organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the provincial public employment service office, resulted in the creation of 500 new jobs, further alleviating local unemployment. Additionally, the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program provided emergency employment to nearly 2,500 individuals, focusing on cleaning and maintaining environmental integrity.

As Bulacan strides toward a greener future, the integration of innovative waste management solutions and community support programs underscores the province's commitment to fostering both ecological and economic resilience.
