Cadent Initiates £75m Gas Pipe Replacement Project in Liverpool City Centre
Cadent has launched a £75 million gas pipe replacement project in Liverpool city centre, involving the replacement of approximately 30,000 meters of gas pipes, with completion expected by March 2025. This initiative is part of a broader 30-year programme to upgrade the UK gas network, aimed at reducing leakage and facilitating the use of cleaner gases. Road closures are in effect on Dale Street and Water Street, with temporary gas supply interruptions during construction.

Cadent is conducting a £75 million gas pipe replacement project in Liverpool city centre, part of a North West upgrade programme. Road closures are in effect on Dale Street and Water Street as crews replace approximately 30,000 meters of gas pipes, with most work expected to be completed by March 2025.
This initiative is part of a 30-year programme, initiated in 2002, to upgrade the UK gas network, with Cadent replacing about 1.5% of its 34,000 km of pipes annually. In addition, 40,000 meters of pipes are being upgraded in Wirral.
The project aims to replace a 40-meter section of metallic pipe with new plastic piping to reduce leakage and accommodate cleaner gases like biomethane. A lane closure is in place on Water Street, and gas supplies will be temporarily turned off during construction.
