Canada and Estonia Collaborate on Community-Centered Clean Energy Partnership
The University of Victoria's Accelerating Community Energy Transformation (ACET) initiative has partnered with the Estonian Islands Energy Agency to develop community-based clean energy solutions in the EU. This collaboration will focus on three key projects starting in 2026, addressing biogas, the social impacts of renewable energy, and local energy independence, with community engagement central to the research process. The initiative is partially funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.

The University of Victoria-led Accelerating Community Energy Transformation (ACET) initiative has partnered with the Estonian Islands Energy Agency (EISEA) to advance community-based clean energy solutions in the European Union. The ACET-Estonian Islands Community Energy Partnership aims to co-design research that addresses local energy needs, enhancing local capacity and creating replicable energy systems.
The partnership will initiate three priority projects in early 2026, focusing on biogas, social impacts of renewable energy, and local energy independence. Community engagement will be integral to all projects, with research co-designed with Estonian partners. The initiative is partially funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.
